I went to the Covent Garden bash.
I didn't stay long as it was really a team thing rather than for supporters as Hanger has pointed out in a previous thread. However I wanted to go just to thank them for this season.
That said the players could not have been more welcoming, open and friendly. You could have a conversation with any one of them. No arrogance, no ego, just a "thanks for your support, it helped." They are a great bunch of guys, a team truly worthy of our time and money.
I think sometimes we take players for granted. We moan when things go wrong, when we lose games that we should have won. I think that Slough, alongside Guildford, play the most exciting hockey in the EPL and we should be very proud of them. The wheels can come of on occasions (how did we lose the Isle of Wight?)but when we are firing on all cylinders we are a sight to behold. It would have been a travesty if we had come out of this season with no silverware and in the end we got what we deserved.
I asked Chico how he managed to score 2 short handed goals in the semi against Guildford. He said "I got lucky". No Chico, you didn't. Those goals came as a result of years of practice, training and innate ability. The fact that he scored those goals in a game that really mattered is a testament to his character.
It wasn't just Chico. At some point in the season every single Jet stepped up to the plate. Jan, Tony, Michael Bowman, Chinny, the list goes on. And thanks to Les, sorry to hear of your retirement. Carl Thompson gets better and better as does Jamie Milton. Dean Skinns, what can you say? Fantastic season.
I wouldn't swap any player in this team for one from another.
Sorry for those players I missed out but I have endless respect for each and every one.
Finally, thanks to Mo, Warren and Zed and all the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make things happen. You have done a wonderful job,and the community work and youth development programme will bear dividends in the future, I am sure.
You have all made me one very happy little bunny. Moderated By: mdenholm@sloughjets.co.uk
