Ciaran Long returns to the Jets
Slough Jets Head Coach Slava Koulikov has inked a deal to bring Ciaran Long back to the Jets. The right winger first iced with the Jets in 2009-10 after learning his hockey at Swindon and icing with their junior programme and the Wildcats.
The 21 year old took his first steps in hockey at the Link Centre and made his senior debut with the Wildcats with a single appearance in the 2005/06 season. In the following season he played at Under 19, ENL and EPL level, gaining his first experience of senior play-off hockey. He repeated this the following season and was rewarded in 2008/09 by call up to the Great Britain Under 18 and Under 20 teams.
The following season he came to Slough with 20+21 from his 55 Jets appearances and 1+5 from 5 GB Under 20 experiences. The 2010/11 season was cut short due to injury for Ciaran but he still managed 30 points from 39 appearances and an assist from his GB experience.
Back to full fitness Ciaran Long signed with Manchester and united with Slava Koulikov again with whom he’d played at the Jets, this time under Tony Hand. Despite the team having one of the worst injury crisis they contended in every competition and were the finalists in the play-offs. Ciaran returned to the Phoenix to start the 2012/13 season and has 16 points from 32 appearances.
With an opportunity available at the Jets Ciaran has now returned to making the Hangar home and will again link up with Slava Koulikov.
Having secured the deal Slava Kouikov commented; “I’d like to welcome him on board. He's a huge addition for us as we've been searching for a British guy since Josh Bruce. I first got to know Ciaran when I first joined Slough and could see then he was a very talented kid with a lot of potential. Over the lasts few years we can all see he has greatly developed. He has always had all the tools he needs and he's improved at the Phoenix under Tony Hand, who is one of the best coaches in the league. Tony has taught him the skills and structure of hockey and that has benefited him massively. He’s still a young guy and has development time still ahead of him so I'm really looking forward to working with him as a player and this time also as a Coach.”
Ciaran Long added; “It’s good to be back and hopefully I’ll be able to help the team out and try to be a part of bringing some more silverware to the club and carrying on the success of the last few seasons”.
Director of Operations Steve English said; “We’ve all known for a while that we’ve needed an extra British player and it’s taken longer than we’d have liked in an ideal world. In mid season the availability of quality British players is low meaning it’s taken some time to find the right player who is not only right for the team but also available to sign for the team. Slava and I are excited about the addition of Ciaran Long re-joining the Jets. He is a big guy who plays a big role and I’m sure will re-establish himself with the supporters in no time at all.”
He continued; “Now that we have brought Ciaran in we would like to say a massive thank-you to Dave King and Marie Surita who have agreed to run “Kinga’s Consortium” for the remainder of the season to contribute towards the cost of bringing Ciaran in. Dave and Marie have been long term passionate supporters of the team and it’s great to welcome them back on board and for them to agree to run a player consortium to help improve them team and their chances of success”.
“Kinga’s Consortium” will be the official player sponsor of Ciaran Long for the remainder of the 2012/13 season and supporters can pledge their amounts, either as one off payments or weekly or monthly contributions. Supporters can contact Dave by email to email@example.com or in person at home games.
Ciaran stands at 6 foot 3 and weighs 157lbs. He shoots right handed. Previous clubs: Swindon, Slough, Basingstoke and Manchester
