Slough Jets bring in James Hutchinson

Slough Jets Head Coach Slava Koulikov has inked a deal to bring in James Hutchinson meaning the 28 year old, Tynemouth born defenceman joins the Jets with immediate effect from EPL rivals Basingstoke Bison.

James Hutchinson brings to the Jets a wealth of experience having played at English Premier and Elite Level as well as representing Great Britain at four World Junior Championships across Under 18 and Under 20 level.

Hutchinson made his EPIHL debut in 2000/01 which was also the first year he represented Great Britain at Under 18 level. A spell with the Isle of Wight Raiders followed also in the EPIHL before signing to the Basingstoke Bison and getting his first taste of EIHL experience in 2003/04 which was also his second year playing for GB Under 20s. His next stop was north of the border playing for Dundee Stars in the British National League before leaving the country for a season in France with Morzine-Avoriaz.

Hutchinson returned to the UK in 2006/07 to play with the Elite League Manchester Phoenix and finished the season with the EPIHL Phantoms where he stayed for a further two full seasons including a loan spell back in the top league with Nottingham. His 1+ points per game average with the Phantoms in 2008/09 earned him another chance at the top league, this time with the Hull Stingrays before returning to Bretton Way for the following season. 2011/12 was spent in the EIHL again with Belfast Giants.

He has started this season with 17 points from 22 starts split between Peterborough and Basingstoke where he has just completed injury cover.

A delighted Slava Koulikov said of his signing; “James Hutchinson is one of those guys who is very well experienced in British hockey. He has played in and proven himself in the Elite league and in the EPL for many years now so to find out he was available after the weekend was surprising. We're looking to strengthen and add depth and experience and he has those qualities. I believe he has what we’re looking for on and off the ice so we got together and had a conversation and he'll be joining the line up and, with registration complete, icing for us this weekend against Manchester and Bracknell.”

Director of Operations Steve English added; “It’s not often a player of this calibre becomes available in the middle of the season so I’m delighted Slava has managed to bring him to the Jets and look forward to seeing icing for us this weekend”.

James Hutchinson will make his Jets debut this Saturday when the Jets play on home ice at the Hangar against the Manchester Phoenix in their last home game of 2012. Tickets can be bought on-line at or can be bought at the Absolutely Ice Arena on Saturday night.

James Hutchinson stands at 5’11 and weighs 194lbs. Previous clubs: Peterborough, Isle of Wight, Basingstoke (EIHL), Dundee, Morzine-Avoriaz, Manchester (EIHL), Nottingham, Hull, Belfast, Basingstoke (EPL).
